ESOS Audits and Compliance Assistance
Turn ESOS Audits Data into an Actionable Plan
The deadline for the first compliance period of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) passed on 5 December 2015.
The next compliance period has officially started on 6 December 2015. The environment agency has advised all organisations to plan their compliance strategy for the next four year period by implementing a rolling programme of energy audits over the next four years.
By doing this, organisations will be well placed to comply with ESOS obligations by the next deadline of 5 December 2019, and benefit from implementing the opportunities identified by the ESOS audits.
Over 6,000 organisations have successfully carried out audits of their buildings, processes and transport during the first phase of ESOS audits. Ameresco has identified opportunities to save energy and reduce costs for a number of clients. According to the Environment Agency, a business can reduce its annual energy costs by 20% through improved energy efficiency and energy management.
Organisations now have an opportunity to make the most of the energy-saving opportunities identified in their audit. The environment agency has produced a guide for organisations that addresses some of the challenges you might face including:
- reliably quantifying the savings that can be made from individual projects
- how to make an attractive business case
- how to prioritise and compare energy-saving opportunities against alternatives
- how to ensure that projects are aligned with your business strategy
- how to get the right resources to implement the project
Implementing effective energy savings projects is one of the best ways for a business to reduce operating costs and the benefits flow directly through to the bottom line. Implementing energy savings projects also raises awareness within the company of the importance of using resources efficiently, engages employees in energy efficiency and contributes to the organisation’s corporate sustainability objectives
It is important to work with a partner that has the experience, capability and resources to effectively deliver energy savings projects. Ameresco is one of the largest independent energy efficiency companies in the UK and develops, designs, engineers and installs projects that improve the efficiency of major building systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting. Over the past 14 years, Ameresco has raised more than $1.8 billion of project financing for our customers’ projects.
Ameresco has, as project managers and implementers, completed over $5 billion of energy efficiency projects for customers worldwide across sectors including universities, hospitals, schools, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, aggregates, supermarkets, retailers, offices, buildings, food and drink manufacturers and the public sector.
To take your ESOS projects forward, the environment agency suggests that organisations break projects down into individual steps and develop a structured delivery plan with clear tasks, timelines and project milestones. In addition, organisations need to involve colleagues and stakeholders at each stage to build consensus, spread understanding of the benefits and build confidence that the project will deliver guaranteed savings which will be measured, verified and communicated.
For complex project organisations may also need external support in verifying the savings for a project, whether completed internally or using a third party like Ameresco. Ameresco’s measurement and verification specialists can help you implement a measurement and verification plan to help ensure that the savings delivered by the project are in line with the business case.
Contact Ameresco now to discuss implementing the projects identified through your ESOS audits. Ameresco can support you in a number of ways, from providing independent advice and specialist services to full-scale implementation of your projects.
